This was such a moving and honest essay. I love how you wove in thoughts and facts about Tahlequah. I was also very moved by Tahlequah’s story and wrote an essay about her at the time, though mine was from the perspective of a bereaved parent. The thing about parental grief is that even though it’s too heavy to carry, we still must carry it.
