I think many kids need to be in school, but I’ve never subscribed to the one-size-fits-all approach to anything. My daughter’s grades were better in school, but she was also incredibly stressed and anxious. School was (and is) her biggest burden. She lost her sister four years ago and in this past (pandemic) year, she turned 16. Her sister died a six weeks before her 16th birthday. This terrible milestone of suddenly being older than her big sister was…hard. It brought on deep depression and fresh grief. I think what my daughter needs right now is to be with her peers. She needs socialization and, my god, to be the hell away from me and her dad! School is a piece of the larger puzzle with these kids. Going back before we’re all vaccinated isn’t the answer. My daughter is desperately afraid of losing me or her dad — she’s already lived through a huge loss. (sorry to go on and on.) I’m happy for you that your son is in school and doing better.
