“For the length of time he was submerged, he was in complete peace. He could hardly hold his head up he was so tired, so I steadied my arms on either side of him, allowing him to choose which way he rested. I kissed his head and hummed songs I sang to him when he was a baby. It took all my strength not to cry. I just kept thinking about what an honor it is to be here with him now.”

Laura had been trying to alleviate Benji’s intractable pain, giving him some comfort during a time of complete desolation.
