I've been hanging around Medium for almost 6 years and I've loved it here, but it's become difficult for me to get my work in front of readers (follower count is misleading). So, with a big sigh, I've begun a slow but steady move over to Substack. I have begun republishing my work in a newsletter called The Halfway Path. I’m also publishing original pieces that aren’t on Medium (unboosted pieces for now).

I hope you’ll join me there. All my work is currently free to access though there is a paid subscription option for people who want to support me.

A little about me

I am many things: writer, mother, birder, wife, lover of tiny dogs, novice mushroom forager, halfway decent artist, mediocre photographer, terrible gardener...

I earn a decent living as a content writer penning masterpieces about generative AI, ecommerce, personalization, digital customer experience, and trends. Also see: martech, online learning/upskilling/training, and all things digital marketing.

I started writing on Medium less than two years after losing my 15-year-old daughter to cancer. Most of my essays focused on parental grief in its many shapes and flavors. I also write about middle age, mental health, my heartfelt attempts to parent a child who is alive even as I try to stay connected to one who is not. Also birds, mushrooms, dissertations about my dog, my house, THE MENOPAUSE (spoken in a whispery scream) and the occasional rant about stuff that's bothering me.

I occasionally republish essays that have been featured elsewhere. Once upon a time, Medium had its own publications that it maintained and I've been honored to be featured in a few of them. Bylines include: Human Parts, Washington Post, Al Jazeera, Pulse, HuffPost, Longreads, and Modern Loss. I've also written a few middle grade children's fantasy novels, but that's neither here nor there.

I'm whatever the opposite of a data scientist is. Essayist. Content writer. Bereaved parent. Mediocre artist. Lover of birds, mushrooms, tiny dogs, and nature.
